Wikipedia Definition of Egg CoddlerCoddlers have been manufactured by Royal Worcester in WorcesterUK, since at least the 1890s, and may have been invented there.  One will "break the egg in an egg coddler, porcelain cup or ramekin with a lid, and cook" in boiling water.

***The following information was found at this website and pertains to these egg coddlershttp://www.egg-coddlers.com/RoyalWorcester/palmyra/
***Royal Worcester (RW)- Palmyra Pattern
> This pattern consists of a Jacobean pattern. On the king size coddler, the pattern includes a triangle, the head of which can be pointed up or down.   Triangle is pointing up on both of these.

***Royal Worcester (RW) produced four sizes of coddler in increasing capacity... Standard...King...Jumbo...Maxime
> Size- The King Size was designed to prepare two eggs.  It measures 4 inches from the base to the top of the lifting ring. With the lid off, the coddler body stands 3¼ inches tall. It is approximately 2½ inches in diameter. This is currently the only size of coddler that RW produces.

***Type 9 Coddler Backstamp
> Stylized script W inside a circle. Outside the circle appears ROYAL WORCESTER above and PORCELAIN below around the outside of the circle. Beneath that is MADE IN ENGLAND in smaller type. The screw threads are of the newer, less-dense pitch. The backstamp of Type 9 is black and is imprinted over the glaze. This backstamp is similar to several other types. Here is a table backstamp characteristics of those similar types.

***Screw Threads on Royal Worcester Coddlers
> The screw threads on the lids of Royal Worcester (RW) coddlers varies by pitch (or number of lines in the thread). The screw threads at the top of the coddler itself also varies in pitch, and the material from which the top rim of the coddler is made. Most of the coddler top rims were made of metal (stainless steel), except the rims used in Type 10. The rims of Type 10 coddlers (and a possible sub-type of Type 9) have a rim made of white nylon.
> The screw threads of RW coddler types Type 8 through Type 12 have the coarser-pitched, sometimes referred to as having "fewer" threads. You can count one or two threads on the lid of a coddler of Type 8 or later, Standard or King Size. You can count three or four threads on the top of a coddler of Type 8 or later.
